Fiery Server Queue Setup

Updated on

This operation assumes the appropriate driver has been installed and the CIA print server has been configured properly to communicate with PaperCut primary server.

Expand or collapse content 1. Create Fiery Preset & Virtual Printer

(Fig.1) In Fiery Command Workstation, use the Server drop down menu to select "Device Center"

(Fig.1a) then select "Job Presets" under WORKFLOWS and click "+New…" to open the "Job Preset Settings" dialoge. Name the preset and define job settings.

(Fig.1b)Click the "Publish as Virtual Printer" button then name the printer, select the "Job action" (this will typically be "Print") and hit "OK". This will create the virtual printer and associate it with the previously defined print settings.

2. Setup Server Queue

(Fig.2) Add a local printer/queue with manual settings on the appropriate server (I am setting this up on ciaart-print)

(Fig.2a & 2b)Create a new "Standard TCP/IP Port" using the Fiery IP address and assure the name the port matches the Fiery virtual printer name above (this is case sensitive).  Name the printer appropriately and complete installation (note: this is how the printer will show up to other users).

(Fig.2c) After the printer/queue is created, change port configuration to LPR protocol and enter the queue name (exactly as the virtual printer is displayed in Fiery)

3. PaperCut Setup

(Fig.3) After the printer has been added, PaperCut will register the instance of that device using the server name and the queue name. In the Papercut admin page, find the device name in the printer list and click the link to navigate the Printer Details page (to quickly find a printer, the name can be entered and searched in the filter field).

(Fig.3a)Under the "Charging" tab select the "by paper sizes" charging type then enter the base cost(s). Uncheck the "USE DEFAULT" cost radio button and make any applicable changes to differentiate costs between paper sizes.
