Room Changes

Updated on

No room changes will be allowed during the first two weeks of the semester.

How to start the process.

Typically, the resident will be encouraged to have a conversation with their roommate/suitemates to see if they can find a resolution on their own. If that does not help, all room changes begin with a roommate mediation facilitated by a Resident Assistant.

Mediation

The mediation process is meant to allow roommates to discuss issues and come to solutions and compromises with the assistance of the RA. The RA will call the meeting between the roommates. The RA will bring the roommate agreement to the mediation to determine if anything needs to be changed in order for a more successful agreement. At the end of the mediation, the staff will usually allow for students to try out new strategies for at least a week.

Switching rooms

Sometimes, despite the involvement of the RA, it becomes clear that the roommate pairing will not work. The student who initiated the move will be asked to meet with the Assistant Director of Residence Life to view available spaces. If it is not an emergency, the student will have an opportunity to meet with potential roommates to determine the best space to move to. Once that is determined, the resident's access will be updated and a day and time will be determined for the move. The student moving will be given further instructions about moving by hall staff.
