Both the respondent and the complainant will have the opportunity to present their information. If either party wishes to present witnesses to corroborate their information, the names of the witnesses and their statements should be sent to the Assistant Dean of Students via email five business days prior to the hearing. Witnesses will be invited to attend the hearing by the Assistant Dean of Students and will be given an opportunity to share their information at the hearing. Pertinent records, exhibits, and written statements may be accepted as documentation for consideration by the Board, at the discretion of the Assistant Dean of Students.

In most cases, the complainant and respondent will remain in the room during all witness accounts. However, the Assistant Dean of Students may make the determination as to whether or not the complainant and/or respondent can be present when adverse witnesses present information.

All questions will go through the members of the Conduct Board. If either party has a question for a witness, they must ask the question to the moderator, who will determine if the question is appropriate and will pose all questions to witnesses.

A student may choose to seek assistance from a non-legal advisor. This individual must be a member of the CIA community (faculty, staff, or student). The student conduct hearing is an internal disciplinary proceeding; therefore, the advisor may not be an attorney or anyone outside of the CIA community. The advisor may assist the student in preparation for their hearing and be present in a supportive role during the hearing. Students participating in the Student Conduct Process are responsible for presenting their own information, and therefore, advisors may be present but are not permitted to participate in hearings.

Retaliation by any party toward others involved in the adjudication of a violation, including witnesses and non-legal advisors, is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
