5.6 Unpaid Personal Leaves Not Covered by FMLA

Updated on

If an employee finds that they require time away from their job for non-medical reasons, requests for unpaid leaves of absence are to be submitted in writing to the employee’s Vice President and will be approved on a case by case basis. An employee does not, however, accrue paid time off during an unpaid leave of absence. The employee is also not entitled to holiday pay for any holidays during the leave period.

Non-medical related unpaid leaves, in no case may exceed 12 weeks. Any employee on personal leave for more than 12 weeks will be administratively terminated.

For medical related leaves not covered by FMLA if additional time beyond 12 weeks is needed please see disability accommodation policy 8.14.
