Medical Emergency

Updated on

As CIA staff, you are not trained in CPR or First Aid by the department, and you are not required or expected to perform CPR/First Aid during a medical emergency. If you choose to do so, it is at your own discretion.

Immediate Action: Determine the severity of the emergency and choose between calling the CWRU Nurse On Call or EMS.

●     If you are unsure, contact EMS.

Secondary Action: Contact Pro-Staff On Call.

●     If you have a second responding RA, have them contact Pro-Staff while you are on the phone with the nurse/EMS

●     Pro-Staff will respond in person if the emergency is severe enough.

Third Action: If the student needs medical transport, enact the Medical Transport protocol.

Reporting Action: RA documents with an Incident Report.

Additional Information:

●     Please remind students that you are not a medical professional and are unable to help them make any decisions regarding their health. Emergency personnel are happy to assist, and you should call EMS to have someone come to the residence hall to assess the concern.

●     If the person cannot make decisions regarding transportation and/or treatment because they are incapacitated or unable to respond for any reason, emergency personnel must be called. Call EMS.
